Phil’s annual Earth Day social media post is always something like "Farming everyday like its Earth Day since 1979." It's a challenge and reminder—celebrating Earth Day only matters if you back it up the other 364.
The primary goal of Sixteen 600’s organic farming has always been to build the health of the ecosystem in and around the vineyards, as such they always look for ways to reduce their environmental impact. Taking that same approach in the winery, the quest for both radical and incremental changes, led them to the aluminum can. Short of taking a paper straw straight to a barrel, there is no environmentally perfect wine vessel, but cans cut down on shipping weight without sacrificing recyclability. Putting a small portion of their wines in to cans instead of glass bottles is one way we can all live every day like its Earth Day.
